My wife and I couldn't be more pleased with our experience at Morton Financial Advice. What stood out most was the thoroughness. Mike went through every aspect of our financial life together with us, making sure nothing was overlooked. It's rare to find an advisor who genuinely welcomes a second opinion and operates with such transparency. That commitment to honesty is clearly a core value here, not just a talking point. After organizing our goals, we put together a short-term and long-term plan that left us feeling informed, confident, and truly taken care of. Highly recommend Mike and his team to anyone looking for a financial advisor they can actually trust.

We loved working with Mike to develop a financial plan! He takes a highly relational approach to financial planning, really taking the time to understand the kind of life you want to build and shaping your financial goals around that. It never feels one-size-fits-all. He’s also incredibly knowledgeable and always available to help, whether it’s a big decision or a quick technical question. Working with him has given me a real sense of clarity and peace of mind. I feel confident that we have a sound plan and clear direction moving forward. Highly recommend!

Mike is amazing! For years my wife and I had been putting off finding someone to help us get organized. But with two kids approaching college age, we knew we couldn't afford to wait any longer. We are so glad that we found Mike! He took the time to really get to know us and our particular priorities so that he could tailor a financial plan to our needs. At each step he has explained what he is doing and how it helps us achieve our long term goals and has patiently addressed every question or concern we've had. Most importantly, we can tell how much he truly cares about us as people and not simply as clients or just account numbers. In just a short time with Mike, we've gone from being anxious and unsure about our financial future to feeling confident that we have a solid plan for success. We know we are in good hands with Mike and cannot recommend him highly enough!

I found Mike through the Garrett Network after reviewing all the available advisor profiles. He clearly stood out as someone I could trust with sensitive financial information and as a steady guide during a chapter of life when the stakes felt high... ...approaching retirement and a rising junior applying to college. Even in our first exploratory call, Mike quickly earned my confidence through his clarity, expertise, and his grounded, down-to-earth approach. He made short work of the complexity around investment accounts, taxes, and upcoming expenses, helping me focus on what truly mattered. After that first call, I had significantly less stress and a clear, actionable path forward. Choosing to work with Mike was an easy decision, and I can say without hesitation that it was money well spent. I’d recommend him to anyone navigating a major life transition or seeking a clear-eyed view of their financial future.

He was very organized and responsive throughout the process. It was always a pleasure meeting with him and discussing our financial situation. We are very satisfied with the financial plan he created for us and would highly recommend Mike as a financial advisor.

A Few Common Questions

How much does a financial advisor cost at Morton Financial Advice?
Morton Financial Advice charges flat, published fees, not a percentage of your portfolio. There are three planning packages: Express at $3,400, Comprehensive at $6,800, and Full Service starting at $12,000 per year. Hourly consulting is available at $480 per hour for one-off questions. Full Service is priced based on complexity. You’ll know your exact fee before you commit to anything. Nothing is quoted after the fact.
What's the difference between the Express, Comprehensive, and Full Service packages?

The three packages differ in depth, number of meetings, and whether MFA manages your investments for you.

  • Express ($3,400): One meeting – A net worth snapshot including income and expense review, general savings guidance, tax return review, college cost planning, a retirement “on track” check, and a recommended stock-versus-bond allocation. Insurance, estate planning, and investment management are not included.
  • Comprehensive ($6,800): Five or more meetings plus a written plan documenting the analysis – Adds paystub and withholding review, forward-looking tax strategy such as Roth conversions, a full insurance review (life, auto, home, long-term care, health, umbrella), specific college saving recommendations, multiple retirement scenarios, account-level allocation with recommended trades, and review of your will, trusts, POA, and beneficiaries.
  • Full Service ($12K/year+): Everything in Comprehensive, plus ongoing accountability to ensure the plan is tracked and implemented. MFA can manage your investment accounts, monitor all accounts including employer retirement plans year-round, review your tax return and current-year tax estimates, respond within 24 hours, and hold you accountable to the plan by reaching out when something needs to happen.

A useful rule of thumb 👍: Choose Express for a second opinion, Comprehensive for a real plan you’ll implement yourself, and Full Service if you’d rather hand the ongoing work over to someone else.

Is Morton Financial Advice a fee-only fiduciary advisor?
Yes. Morton Financial Advice is a fee-only, fiduciary registered investment advisory firm. Mike Morton and his associates are paid only by their clients. They earn no commissions, receive no referral payments, and sell no insurance or investment products.
“Fee-only” and “fiduciary” are two different things, and both matter. Fiduciary means they are legally obligated to act in your best interest. Fee-only means there’s no product commission quietly pulling in another direction. Many advisors are one but not the other.
Is there a minimum net worth or investment minimum to work together?
No. The Express and Comprehensive planning packages have no asset minimum. They’re flat-fee engagements priced by the scope of the work, not by the size of your portfolio. That’s the point of flat-fee pricing: a household early in its wealth-building years can get the same quality of planning as one that’s already there.
Full Service pricing does scale with complexity.
Who is Morton Financial Advice a good fit for?
Mike and his associates work primarily with business and technology professionals and executives who are established in their careers, busy with family and life, and navigating significant financial decisions, and who lack the time to manage it all themselves. They help make recommendations for stock compensation, retirement planning, college savings, tax strategy, investments, and more.
Typical situations: your RSUs have become a meaningful share of your net worth; you have kids approaching college and a mortgage and a retirement date you’ve never actually modeled; you have accounts scattered across three former employers; or your finances are basically fine but nobody has ever confirmed that for you.
It’s likely not the right fit if you’re looking for stock picking, market timing, or someone to hand your money to without a conversation about your life first.
Can MFA help with stock options, RSUs, and equity compensation?
Yes. Stock compensation is one of Morton Financial Advice’s core specialties. Mike spent his career in technology before becoming a CFP®, including founding a startup that sold to Comcast and serving as CFO of another, so equity comp is familiar territory, not something we just learned. Planning typically covers when to exercise and the tax consequences of each choice, ISO versus NSO treatment and AMT exposure, whether to sell RSUs at vest or hold, how much single-stock concentration your plan can actually tolerate, ESPP participation, and how equity events interact with the rest of your tax year.
Does Morton Financial Advice manage my investments?
Investment management is included in the Full Service package only. At that level, Mike and his associates manage your investment accounts directly including selecting funds, rebalancing, and tracking performance, and they monitor all your accounts year-round, including employer retirement plans they don’t directly control.

The Comprehensive package includes investment advice without management: a specific allocation for each account and the exact trades recommended, which you then place yourself. Express includes only a general stock-versus-bond allocation recommendation.
What does the financial planning process look like?

Morton Financial Advice follows a four-phase process:

  1. Exploration, goals, and aspirations – What you actually want your money to do, before any numbers get run.
  2. Visualize future scenarios – Reviewing where you are today and modeling how different choices play out.
  3. Review recommendations – Walking through the recommendations and the reasoning behind each one, together.
  4. Implementation and monitoring – Making sure the plan actually gets done, and tracking it over time. (Full Service only)

MFA’s approach is educational rather than prescriptive. You should understand why a recommendation makes sense for your situation, not just be handed a directive.
What states does Morton Financial Advice serve?
Morton Financial Advice is registered to provide investment advisory services in Massachusetts, California, New York, Colorado and Pennsylvania, and can serve clients in other states in certain circumstances. Mike and his associates work with many clients entirely remotely, making geography a minor factor in most cases. Clients across New England, including Connecticut, Rhode Island, Vermont, New Hampshire, and Maine, regularly engage with MFA.
What are Mike Morton's credentials?
Mike holds three professional designations: CFP® (Certified Financial Planner™), ChFC® (Chartered Financial Consultant), and RLP® (Registered Life Planner®). His academic credentials include graduate study at The American College of Financial Services, an M.S. in Computer Science from The Johns Hopkins University, and a B.A. in Mathematics from Swarthmore College.
Only about 25% of U.S. financial advisors hold the CFP® designation, which requires coursework, a comprehensive exam, experience, and a fiduciary commitment.
Is hiring a financial advisor worth the cost?
It depends on the complexity of your situation and how much you want to handle your finances. No advisor can honestly promise a return on their fee. A flat fee buys a defined deliverable: a plan built around your actual goals, and someone accountable for whether it gets implemented.
The value tends to be highest when consequential, hard-to-reverse decisions are in play, such as equity compensation and its tax treatment, Roth conversion timing, how much insurance is actually enough, whether a retirement date is realistic, and funding college without derailing retirement. Mistakes in those areas are expensive and often quiet for years.
Flat-fee pricing also makes the math easy to check. You know the cost up front and can weigh it against what you’re getting, rather than watching a percentage come out of your portfolio indefinitely.
How do I get started?
Start with a free consultation — a no-obligation conversation about where you are, what’s on your mind, and which package (if any) fits. BOOK NOW.
There’s no preparation required and nothing to bring. If it’s a fit, Mike will recommend a package and quote the exact fee before any engagement begins. If it isn’t, he’ll say so.
