Financial Advice Built Around Your Life

Mike combines financial planning expertise with firsthand experience in technology, entrepreneurship, and family life. He helps busy professionals make confident financial decisions with clear advice, practical support, and a long-term perspective.

You only get one life, what could be more important?

You are established and in the middle of your tech career.

Your life is busy, filled with friends, family, and the happenings of life.

You prioritize important financial decisions but struggle to find time to manage them.

I believe that money is a tool to live the life you want.

I founded Morton Financial Advice because I believe that everyone deserves support in their financial lives, no matter your stage in life.

I’m extremely passionate about supporting families to reach their life goals, through the critical financial decisions that are part of our daily lives. By creating small habits, setting the correct path, and giving on-going support, together we craft the future as you desire it.

As with any financial advisor, I bring a unique experience to our working relationship. I began my career as a computer programmer and soon thereafter founded a start-up technology company. With my business partners, we built and ran that company for 6 years, eventually selling it to Comcast Corp. From there I founded a second start-up company where I worked as the Chief Financial Officer and managed projects with AOL, NBA, MTV and others. I transitioned from that company when I started a family and wanted to be at home more often.

I live with my wife and three young children in Harvard, MA. We enjoy all outdoor activities including hiking, camping, running, snowboarding, and obstacle racing.

I have played Ultimate Frisbee for decades and coach the youth team in town, ran a professional woodworking/furniture-making business, and host a podcast focused on financial planning.

What People Ask Most

Who is Mike Morton?
Mike is a fee-only, fiduciary financial advisor and the founder of Morton Financial Advice, based in Massachusetts. He holds CFP®, ChFC®, and RLP® credentials and specializes in financial planning for people in the middle of their careers who are managing demanding jobs, growing families, and complex financial decisions at the same time.
Mike holds three professional designations: CFP® (Certified Financial Planner™), ChFC® (Chartered Financial Consultant), and RLP® (Registered Life Planner®). His academic credentials include graduate study at The American College of Financial Services, an M.S. in Computer Science from The Johns Hopkins University, and a B.A. in Mathematics from Swarthmore College.
Mike works primarily with business and technology professionals and executives who are established in their careers, busy with family and life, and navigating significant financial decisions, and who lack the time to manage it all themselves. He helps make recommendations for stock compensation, retirement planning, college savings, tax strategy, investments, and more.
Mike founded Morton Financial Advice because he understands firsthand how overwhelming and stressful life can be, especially when you also have to navigate your own financial decisions. His own experience as an entrepreneur, building, running, and ultimately selling a technology company, while also raising a family, gave him a firsthand understanding of the financial complexity his clients face.
Before becoming a financial advisor, Mike worked as a computer programmer, founded a technology startup that he later sold to Comcast Corp., and served as Chief Financial Officer of another startup. He started a furniture build + design company to work at home while raising young kids. His family moved to Perth, Australia, for two years, where Mike was a full-time dad. That background in tech, entrepreneurship, and raising kids directly informs how he works with clients today.
